What is Naturopathy
Naturopathy relies on the foundation that the body is magnificently and wonderfully designed with innate programming to return to health at every given chance. Our choices: diet, exercise, hours of sleep, thought life patterns, our spiritual life and how we manage life’s pressures all have an impact on how effective our body is at achieving a state of health. Using nutritional supplements, herbal medicine, diet and lifestyle recommendations, exercise, looking at quality and quantity of sleep, fresh air and sunshine, Naturopathy looks to scaffold the right environment for your body to return to health. I see myself as a detective and educator. Firstly what has lead your body to its current status: digestive issues, food sensitivities, allergies, hay fever, asthma, eczema, psoriasis, menstrual deregulation, anxiety or insomnia… the reason your body has landed into this “dis-eased” health pattern is often different to the reasons the person next to you has the same symptoms (and that comes back to how we are so unique and wonderfully made). Once I understand the mechanisms that under-pin that; I see it as my job to scaffold the right tools around you to get you back to health but MOST IMPORTANTLY to teach YOU how to make the best decisions for your body: which of your choices hinder or impede you and which enable and build you?
A really key principle to Naturopathy is PREVENTION. I am not against main stream medicine. It is vital and needed and important, I work in a space between needed serious medical care and wellness: that space where you know “your body is not quite right” Where you still have a choice not to need hard-core anti-depressants or corticoid steroids or antibiotics.
I believe we should be waking refreshed and rested, energised and have a peace of mind. In that space we can function well, love well and offer the very best of ourselves to those we love and those around us and live the full life we are meant to live. If you have a family history of osteoporosis, heart disease, depression, type II diabetes, food allergies, hormonal imbalances these disease process do not happen overnight, they happen over years, quietly, silently: there are signs along the way to the trained eye. Its just a matter of those signs being recognised and addressed before significant disease processes take hold. If you are under the care of a medical practitioner my preferred model of care is to work WITH your GP. If you GP is not familiar with working with a Naturopath that is not a problem, communication is key and that is where I like to start. Open the doors of communication and lets get the best model of care for you!
